Libertarian Party
Michael Badnarik
Presidential Nominee
Richard Campagna
Vice Presidential Nominee
The Libertarian Party finished in fifth place in the 2000 election. Its nominee,
Michael Badnarik, is a computer consultant who strongly supports:
- The immediate withdrawal of American troops from Iraq and in general the elimination of US government intervention in the affairs of other nations
- Free trade without government involvement
- Permitting all citizens to carry concealed weapons
- The elimination of excess regulation of pharmaceuticals, health care providers, and insurance companies
- Permitting gay couples to marry
- The elimination of regulations against use of marijuana and ending the War on Drugs
Philosophically, the Party traditionally has supported civil liberties and most consenting acts between
individuals. It opposes big government, taxes and most government regulation. It favors immigration to the
US for political refugees from any country. It opposes government involvement in decisions surrounding the
issues of abortion or euthanasia. It opposes foreign aid and would withdraw from the World Bank and IMF.
It opposes all supernational agencies that would diminish or restrict the rights of the individual.
